NEW TOP-LEVEL-DOMAINS

To add new top-level domains to http-analyze, just install an up-to-date TLD file. Since release of http-analyze 2.4, some country domains have been changed and the new generic top-level-domains .asia, .tel and .travel have been added. See our List of Top-Level-Domains for more information.

15 YEARS HTTP-ANALYZE

The developement of http-analyze started in 1996 as a statistics tool for the former website www.sgi.de, which was built by RENT-A-GURU™. Since other partners and customers also requested a server statistics tool, the first public version of http-analyze numbered 1.9 appeared in early 1997 and has been replaced since then by 2.5 today. http-analyze reached a high quality standard and reliable long-term operation on servers with just one website as well as on huge website farms.

Usage of http-analyze

http-analyze is best utilized by running on the same machine the web server is running on. This means that the webmaster/administrator of the web service (not the end-user) should install http-analyze and configure it to be executed automatically on a regular base, for example once or twice per day. Although you could use the software on your own machine to process a logfile from elsewhere, this is not the recommended usage, since you would have to transfer the logfile to your computer first and then to execute http-analyze manually to create a statistics report. However, if you really want to do so, it is possible at least.

Supported logfile formats

http-analyze processes logfiles in NCSA Common Logfile Format (CLF) and in the W3CExtended Logfile Formats (ELF) which is used by almost all web servers except Microsoft's IIS, which may use a proprietary logfile format. For IIS we provide a perl script to convert logfiles in IIS (proprietary) format into standardized W3C ELF format. See the manpage of http-analyze and your server's documentation for more information about customizing the server's logfile format. The analyzer recognizes HTTP 1.1 server responses.

Features of http-analyze 2.4

The latest version of the analyzer offers following features:

  • Easy navigation throughout the statistics report with an intuitive-to-use interface.
  • Contains the 3Dstats logfile analyzer, which creates a 3D view (VRML 2.0 scene) of hits by month and hits by hour/weekday.
  • Computes Hits, File count, Cached file count, Pageviews (textual pages), Sessions (unique hosts per 24 hours) and KB sent.
  • Summaries are produced in up to 3 levels of detail: a Top N list shows the most interesting rankings, an overview shows a complete list of all requests and a detailed list contains all details for those requests (an URL, a hostname).
  • Automatically links directories and/or URLs to the resulting statistics record for this page.
  • Handles HTTP/1.1 server responses and new top-level-domains.
  • Produces images in PNG format.
  • Comes with source code, of course also in the free version.
  • Fully configurable layout of the statistics report. Due to the huge demand of service providers to be able to use the analyzer with customized statistics reports and an individual Guide to the statistics report in native language, we offer a commercial version for ISPs including support and assistance for individual solutions.
